[ mood | creative ]

Hi all you crafty Gods and Goddesses. I have been asked to make a wedding bouquet and possibly all the wedding flowers for a December wedding. I have never considered myself very crafty or creative, but chose to rise to the challenge anyhow. Can anyone recommend a good place to start for ideas? Have any suggestions or advice? Etc. Etc.

Thanks
tamakay

When making ties (sewing the tie inside out and then pulling it right-side out like unrolling the world's smallest pair of socks) what is the easist way you have found to do this?

I've been doing it by hand and it takes forever.

Tribal Belly Dancing belt [28 September 2005|11:33AM]

nephthys510
I'm partially done with the belt I have been working on for awhile now

http://pics.livejournal.com/nephthys510/gallery/0000hq66

I'm still waiting on some cowry shells and afghan coins (in the mail). Everything is just safety pinned on now until I know for sure what I want to do.

It comes in two pieces - front and back - the ends are covered in black velvet and grommeted to be corset tied on.

Much thanks to Wedx who took me shopping and helped me pick out stuff, noire who gave valuable noire-esque input, and bellygoth who clued me in on the side tied closure.

So several years ago I bought a cute little dress at a thriftstore hoping it might fit....it of course....didn't.
So I hung onto it.
I tried to sell it, but while cute it just wasn't cute enough.
But I couldn't just give it back to the goodwill since I adored the fabric.
Yesterday inspiration struck me, this morning I went into action....

Here's what I came up with.....Collapse )

Does anyone know of any stores in Colorado that sell spring steel boning? That are close to Denver/Westminister?

Sexay stripes [27 August 2005|04:12PM]

This afternoon's wild hare:

Black & yellow faux fur front, with black vinyl sides, back, strap, etc....
The inside is fully lined in black cotton with a welt inset pocket, and the bottom has a piece of very stiff cardboard that I sewed into some vinyl to give it a fighting chance if it gets wet.
The straps are linked into 'D' rings, and the D ring holders are held onto the sides with 3 chrome rivets each side.

The only thing I would do differently would be to reinforce the sides of the purse with some stiff material since even though I reinforced right where the rivets are with some thick leather I'm still afraid it's putting too much stress in the immediate area and will eventually rip out or shorten the life of the vinyl right there.

The zipper is also a salvage from another piece of clothing.

No pattern, 3 hours work, not too shabby.

That's all folks!
Ta.

6 hours of work this afternoon produced this:

Still needs buttons and the thread trimmed, but I just had to share.....

Ta!

p.s.
and yes I bought the fabric that way, it's a striped shirting material that was either bleached or teastained....can't quite decide which.....but it looks much more lovely in person..and the white ribbon is actually a much darker offwhite but the satin picked up the flash.

~MARKETING GENIUS AT WORK~

this is retarded. i mean, it's nice that she's donating and everything, but a cynic might see it as a promotional stunt which will virtually guarantee that every other five-minutes-at-the-machine project this woman does will sell like hotcakes, at the expense of the rest of us who actually put time and work into our craft.

i'm not sure why i'm irritated. i know this may not irritate everyone else, but damn it.

Subject: OFFER: Steel for recycling. Body shop steel, wash machine, etc  fastangs2005

If you are in the business of recycling steel, we end up with a fair
amount of scrap steel from body work. I can make arrangements for you
to pick up a load now and call you when we collect more in the future.
I had a guy that would pick up regularly, but he started freelancing
and taking stuff that he was not supposed to.

A couple of weeks back, my friend R had a pin on her bag taken away at a concert because the various little pins you put on your handbags are deadly weapons according to some concert venues. I wanted to make her a new pin for the fourth largely because I have been itching to do some beading.

Beading String? [03 July 2005|11:49PM]

Can anyone suggest a really strong thin string for stringing beads? I've tried monofiliment, even upholstry thread neither one of them was strong enough. And elastic string or wire won't work for the project I'm using. So thanks in advance.

So I know alot of you out there sew, I also know, from personal experience that a sewing machine can be a beautiful yet frustrating beast to work with.

I will be teaching a basic sewing machine use class at the newly opening Axis arts academy in July.

I will also be teaching a few other fabric craft oriented classes as well if that floats your boat.

To find out class scheduling, prices, Axis art academy info, etc go:
